Reflection
Starbucks is one of the largest coffee houses in the world, and they are the most up to date on the newest technology available to the hospitality industry. Starbucks have a very good coffee, but I am not a Starbucks fan meaning I will not leave my house and drive two to five miles to get to Starbucks just to buy their coffee. If I am out and close to a Starbucks location or if I have to meet a friend at Starbucks I will buy their products. The Mobil phone technology has been expanding tremendously and Starbucks toke the opportunity to adapt the newest available technology and create the Starbucks card Mobil app and targeted the new generation with high tech phone such as the smart phone and the growing segment of people using the smart phone or the iphone. Starbucks card Mobil it is free to down load and then you can load with any amount using any major credit card. Since most people have their phone in hand any where they go by the time they get to the register at Starbucks no need to open wallet pull some cash or credit card just push the short cut button and scan the bar code on the phone screen and the amount will be charged to your account quick, easy and no cash back. Starbucks customer is able to check their account balance, receive discount coupon, the newest products and free products on their birthday. This is very smart way for Starbucks to create customer loyalty, keep track of their customer’s behavior about their products and it is the least expensive way of advertising and promoting what is new at Starbucks.

  1. I read this exact story and blogged about it briefly on my blog. I thought it was interesting, and very practical. I believe Starbucks is the biggest brand that has implemented mobile payment technology thus far. I read that they tested this technology in select stores, about 1000, over the 2010 year, and found that it will grow brand loyalty. This technology gives Starbucks the ability to track in more detail sales and customer habits as well as send coupons/specials right to the customer’s phone. When you walk around you see just about everyone walking around with a cell phone in their hand or on their hip. It is practical, transactions will occur faster, and process faster. Allowing, Starbucks to accommodate more guests per hour. We all know that there is always a line in Starbucks. I believe in this new technology and it is a technology that I could see myself using but I am not a coffee drinker so I don’t think I will be downloading the app. It is definitely a huge mobile phone leap, now we have to see if this technology is going to implemented by other large companies.

  2. This new technology for Starbucks seems a little unnecessary to me. I think using a credit card at the register is just as fast as having to hand your phone to the cashier and the cashier using the phone as payment. Also the apps or online available for Blackberry’s and iPhone’s and not all Starbucks customers have those phones. I agree with what you said that this technology is a good way to keep track of the loyalty program. I think this is a cool new technology and could be useful in some situations, but overall I just think it is unnecessary when using credit cards is just as easy and takes maybe 10 seconds.
